Here is a picture of the Boggle Bulletin Board that I put up today:

I printed up the following letters on card stock, cut them out, and laminated them. I printed 3 of each letter since a letter may appear more than once in a game of boggle. The extras are being kept in the blue cups.

This will probably be a "last choice" for word work. But, I thought it would be fun for my students to see how many words they can find each week {or two}!!!
I have seen so many wonderful classroom pics. I'm almost done with my mine. It's looking great and I can't wait to share pics later this week!!!

ReplyDeleteNow I'm the one who has been inspired. I've been all over the Boggle board idea, but am SO glad I haven't put it up yet because this is the nicest one I've seen. Thanks for the printables. I love the hanging cups (IKEA?). Did you screw those into a bulletin board or is that the wall? I'm at the edge of my seat waiting to see more classroom pics!

Thanks for the great word work ideas. I am going back to 4th grade after having been in 2nd grade for 5 years. I have not used Daily 5 or The CAFE in 4th grade before, so I am looking for new ideas that the older kids will enjoy.

ReplyDeleteBarb, to print a google doc, go to file on the left of the page and click download original. Then you should be able to print.
Chi-town momma, yes, the cups came from IKEA. I got them there last month.
Are you letting the kids just make as many words as they can or are you having them only make words that are connecting? Does that make sense? Thanks Donna

ReplyDeleteDonna, I'm going to have my students only find words that connect. However, I talked with a 2nd grade teacher at my school who might make one too, and she said she will probably have her students make any words they can with the letters given. I think it would work either way!

Very cute- but how do they play? I know it sounds silly, but I I've never played Boggle
ReplyDeleteThey play by making words with the letters given. The letters need to connect in order to make a word. I'm not going to have them keep track of points, or anything like that.

I am making an activity book for an upcoming road trip. I am going to use your word list sheet and fill in the letters using a boggle game and pre-writing in the letters for several of the pages in her book. Thanks for a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI've done Boggle in my high school classrooms before, but using an overhead projector and clear sheet printed with the Boggle board. This looks wonderful! All of my kids loved Boggle. It was great for Fridays before vacations, or long week-ends. Great idea.

I stole this idea from you, but I'm not sure how to decide which letters to put where? I want to manipulate this a little bit, to make sure that they CAN make lots of words....
ReplyDeleteHi Heather, last year I used a boggle-like app from my iphone to get the different combos of letters. I would always choose a board that had 200+ possible words so that students would be sure to find some. For some reason that app is no longer on my phone. Weird! And when I tried to find it on the app store it wasn't there either. Very weird!! I just downloaded the actual "boggle" app. Hopefully that will help me for the upcoming school year!

ReplyDeleteIt's actually a rod that I got at ikea that is meant hold the cups. It was pretty inexpensive. I put it up with pushpins to see how it would look, and it held all year.

ReplyDeleteAt first, I tried some sticky stuff on the back of the letters. However, they kept falling down. :( So I used star-shaped paper clips that I got from staples. They look very cute and they keep the letters up!
