Here is a picture of the Boggle Bulletin Board that I put up today:
{I'll have more pics from my room when I finish later this week!!!}
I printed up the following letters on card stock, cut them out, and laminated them. I printed 3 of each letter since a letter may appear more than once in a game of boggle. The extras are being kept in the blue cups.
My plan is to change the letters {bi}weekly. Each week students will be given the following handout to complete as an option during word work:
{Click the pic to share!}
This will probably be a "last choice" for word work. But, I thought it would be fun for my students to see how many words they can find each week {or two}!!!
I have seen so many wonderful classroom pics. I'm almost done with my mine. It's looking great and I can't wait to share pics later this week!!!

Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great center! My students would love it. You made it look so cute.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I love this! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteGREAT IDEA!!
ReplyDeleteYour blogs are very inspiring!
How do you print off of Google Docs? I would love to use your letters/game paper.
This is soooo cute!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm the one who has been inspired. I've been all over the Boggle board idea, but am SO glad I haven't put it up yet because this is the nicest one I've seen. Thanks for the printables. I love the hanging cups (IKEA?). Did you screw those into a bulletin board or is that the wall? I'm at the edge of my seat waiting to see more classroom pics!

Thanks for the great word work ideas. I am going back to 4th grade after having been in 2nd grade for 5 years. I have not used Daily 5 or The CAFE in 4th grade before, so I am looking for new ideas that the older kids will enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI have that border...where did you get the scalloped squares behind the letters? Could you email me?

I have 3 Boggle games that I use with my first graders. I LOVE the idea of a bulletin board where the teacher has control of what letters appear! Thank you so much for sharing this great idea.

I have seen those cups all over pinterest...where are they from IKEA? I didn't see them in the new catalog!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, thanks for all the wonderful comments! To answer some of questions...
ReplyDeleteBarb, to print a google doc, go to file on the left of the page and click download original. Then you should be able to print.
Chi-town momma, yes, the cups came from IKEA. I got them there last month.
Are you letting the kids just make as many words as they can or are you having them only make words that are connecting? Does that make sense? Thanks Donna
ReplyDeleteOh Wow! How smart are you? I have little mini boggle games but this would be a great activity for them to learn how to play! Pinning NOW!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteDonna, I'm going to have my students only find words that connect. However, I talked with a 2nd grade teacher at my school who might make one too, and she said she will probably have her students make any words they can with the letters given. I think it would work either way!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteHow did you attach the shower bar to the board? Are the cups designed to hang on a bar? Very creative!
Cheryl
Very cute- but how do they play? I know it sounds silly, but I I've never played Boggle
ReplyDeleteThey play by making words with the letters given. The letters need to connect in order to make a word. Check out this ehow article for more specifics: http://www.ehow.com/how_2042396_play-boggle.html. My kiddos are simply going to find words. I'm not going to have them keep track of points, or anything like that.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! Thanks so much. You have inspired me. I love your ideas.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea!!! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for so freely sharing this! I used it today in our home school with my 1st and 2nd grader. I just wrote letters in to the board with marker for them and they LOVED it! I think we'll probably do this on a weekly basis.
ReplyDeleteSuch a super cute board!! Thanks so much for the idea!!! I especially love the border.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the sheet to keep track of boggle words! I made a boggle board, but just had the students put their words on notebook paper. I like this so much better!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I love this and made it for my room! I know the cups are from Ikea, but what department? I can't seem to find them at all.
ReplyDeleteHi Kellie, I really can't remember where I found the containers. Wish I could be of more help.
ReplyDeleteDo you put the letters up completely random? Or do you get the layout from somewhere? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteWe found the same cups at IKEA in the kitchen section.
ReplyDeleteI love this so much I just RAVED about it on my blog ateachersbagoftricks.blogspot.com.

thanks so much for the cute printout! used it in my Ninth grade as a fun day activity!
ReplyDeleteAt the same time everyone is given the same letters. When you find while you earn points according to the words. Selected letters will be given to you in connection with letters at least 3 letters long, can play a game of finding words http://www.orenglish.com/boggle/online.php
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea! Thanks for the page to go with it too! I will definitely be getting this board up in my room! I can't believe I haven't seen your blog before...and pinterest sent me here twice tonight! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

Love this! Thanks for the freebie!
ReplyDeleteJust curious, do you make the letter formation and then figure out what words can be made? Or is there a website that does this for us? I would love to do this with my 7th graders but do not want to spend the time figuring out what words can be made from the square of letters. I hope that just made sense.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Thanks.

This is really great. Thanks so much for sharing and being so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI am planning this out, and have a technical question for you. It looks like you have colored paper permanently attached to the wall, what are you doing to attach the letters? (velcro, laminated pockets, etc). Looking forward to getting the kids playing this! (Again, thank you!!)

I am making an activity book for an upcoming road trip. I am going to use your word list sheet and fill in the letters using a boggle game and pre-writing in the letters for several of the pages in her book. Thanks for a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI've done Boggle in my high school classrooms before, but using an overhead projector and clear sheet printed with the Boggle board. This looks wonderful! All of my kids loved Boggle. It was great for Fridays before vacations, or long week-ends. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great warm up activity or sponge activity, or even just a fun game to play in the days before holidays or breaks.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to use this in our library for a drop in activity this summer. I've seen many sites using the individual boggle boards but this is a great twist!
ReplyDeleteHow did you make the scalloped pieces behind the letters? Super cute! I can't wait to use this idea.
ReplyDeleteLove your Boggle Board, and have prepared all the materials. How are you attaching the letters to the backdrop? Are you using velcro?
ReplyDeleteI am just love, love, loving this! How did I miss it last year?!
ReplyDeletewhere did you get the scalloped squares behind the letters? Your board is just adorable!! Thanks for sharing!!

So glad you like it!!! I used my sister's cricut to cut our the scalloped squares. Hope that helps!
DeleteThank you so much for sharing! I'm trying out Daily 5 this year and have been looking for activities. Your board idea and letters are great!

I stole this idea from you, but I'm not sure how to decide which letters to put where? I want to manipulate this a little bit, to make sure that they CAN make lots of words....
ReplyDeleteHi Heather, last year I used a boggle-like app from my iphone to get the different combos of letters. I would always choose a board that had 200+ possible words so that students would be sure to find some. For some reason that app is no longer on my phone. Weird! And when I tried to find it on the app store it wasn't there either. Very weird!! I just downloaded the actual "boggle" app. Hopefully that will help me for the upcoming school year!
DeleteThank you! I tend to overthink these things!
DeleteHow did you attach the shower rod? Love this!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a rod that I got at ikea that is meant hold the cups. It was pretty inexpensive. I put it up with pushpins to see how it would look, and it held all year.
DeleteSo cute, I was wondering how you attached the letters??
ReplyDeleteAt first, I tried some sticky stuff on the back of the letters. However, they kept falling down. :( So I used star-shaped paper clips that I got from staples. They look very cute and they keep the letters up!
DeleteBrilliant!!
ReplyDeleteThank-you so much for the freebie! I'm planning to try the Daily 5 in my third grade classroom for the first time when we start back. This will be a great word activity! :)
